Even the mention of the name "Hasan-e-Sabbah" and his devoted followers known as the "Assassins" (or Hashishin) could terrorize the Caliphs in Baghdad and Cairo. His life and teachings carried out in his impenetrable fortresses known as the Castles of Assassins became a legend in Persian history as well as in the West. Hasan's headquarters was "Alamut Castle" but the Assassins had many fearful fortresses furtively built along the Alborz Mountains.
